Legalization of Ukrainians in Poland 2026: UKR status, CUKR and Residence Card
The rules for the stay of Ukrainian citizens in Poland have been updated. In 2026, the focus shifts from temporary protection to long-term legalization: obtaining CUKR status, standard Residence Cards, and opening a business. Below we discuss current legalization paths and document requirements.
Retaining UKR status and the Diia.pl app
Temporary protection status (UKR) remains in effect. The main requirement to maintain it is the absence of departures from the territory of Poland for a period of more than 30 consecutive days.
With each border crossing, you must declare the purpose of entry.
Regularly check the status of your electronic document in the Diia.pl application to avoid sudden cancellation.
Residence Card 2026: transition to CUKR
Since 2025, it has become possible to change the UKR status to CUKR (a special Residence Card for 3 years). This relieves many limitations of temporary protection. However, this path is not suitable for everyone.
An alternative remains applying for a standard Residence Card for work, study, or family reunification. Our lawyers will help you choose the safest path and prepare your file.
Business in Poland: JDG registration
Citizens of Ukraine retain the right to open a sole proprietorship (JDG) under the same conditions as Polish citizens. This is a great option for IT specialists, beauty industry professionals, and freelancers.
We will help you register a JDG, choose a form of taxation, and obtain a NIP number.
Driving license exchange
Citizens of Ukraine can legally exchange their driving license for a Polish document. In many cases, there is no need to pass additional exams. We will help prepare all the necessary documents and submit them to the Office without unnecessary stress.
